Fracking shale is causing more than a boom in energy, writes Loren Steffy at Forbes.

Fracking is causing a boom in news media as well, he writes.

Forbes: "The fracking boom in South Texas is giving rise to a publishing boom. The influx of thousands of oil field workers has boosted local economies, which has been good for local papers such as the Victoria Advocate. The paper started a web site,, which serves as a hub for energy industry news, job information, and a directory of businesses operating in the area.

"The Eagle Ford Shale, though, spans more than 3,000 square miles – far beyond the Advocate’s circulation area — and supports some 117,000 jobs in the region, according to a study by the University of Texas at San Antonio.  It’s no wonder that several publications have started targeting the Eagle Ford as its own community."
