Gordon Biersch is known for being a bit rigid when it comes to the beer styles offered at its brewpubs around the country. Crisp German lagers rule the day.



But the company is slowly untethering its brewers. As part of a new Brewer's Select promotion, Gordon Biersch allowed its brewers to produce a special beer at each brewpub.



The Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant in Columbus will unveil American Brown Ale at a tapping party Wednesday. (Oct. 30) The beer will be available starting at 5:30 p.m., with a ceremonial tapping at 6:30 p.m. Some of the proceeds will benefit the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center. 



"I wanted to do a brown ale because I think it's a great beer for this time of year," brewer Keith Jackson said. "It's a style that we don't usually explore."



He added that the brown ale adhered to the Germany purity law, which restricted beer-making ingredients to barley, hops and water.



Jackson noted that he also made an ESB for the North Market Microbrew Festival and some of that remains on tap.



American Brown Ale is expected to remain on draft for about four weeks, and then give way to the seasonal WinterBock.
