The ex-chairman of Gulfport Energy received millions of dollars in free equity interests, Reuters reported last week.

Mike Liddell, who stepped down in June from Gulfport Energy, a major player in Ohio's Utica shale, was granted the equity shares by Wexford Capital LP in what Reuters calls an "unusual arrangement."

The company said the arrangement has been disclosed the the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
