Jackie O's Firefly Amber Ale and Chomo-lung-ma are now available in cans. Jackie O's, a brewpub and production brewery in Athens, fired up its new canning line a few weeks ago and started distributing the two beers mainly in the local community, brewer Brad Clark said.

The two beers have gone over well with beer fans, who have snatched up about 700 cases in three weeks.

"We are increasing the production of Firefly and Chomo-lung-ma to ensure that we can keep the cans going and slowly get them into more of the state," Clark said. He added that he's not sure where the cans will be distributed outside of Athens yet.

The next Jackie O's beer to hit cans will be Mystic Mama IPA. That beer likely won't be available for another two months, Clark said. The brewery also will start canning its Hop Ryot. That will be released in the fall.

Jackie O's is the second craft brewery in Ohio to start canning. MadTree Brewing Co. in Cincinnati was the first. Jackie O's opened its new production brewery earlier this year and has been distributing draft beer around Ohio.

Meanwhile, Clark said he's busy working on the Jackie O's barrel program. "We're starting to build the barrel program here quite a bit," he said.

Dark Apparition is aging in bourbon barrels. Paw Paw Wheat is aging in brandy and tequila barrels. And this week, the brewery will put Oil of Aphrodite in rum barrels. He said Jackie O's now has more than 30 barrels.
