In my opinion, it would be best if John McCain retired from the Senate. That way he could go to work full time for the Sunday teevee "news" shows. So far in 2013, McCain leads in number of appearances on Sunday shows with a total of 9 appearances. In 2012, McCain led all others in appearances with 20 sit downs, in 2011 he came in second to Michele Bachmann (?) with 19 appearances. If there is even the remotest of possibilities that the U.S. might be facing another conflict in yet another country....John McCain appears on the Sunday shows.
With all the deja-vu talk about whether Syrian leaders have ordered WMD to be used against their own people last week....it is no surprise that John McCain made yet another appearance on the Sunday shows to do what he always does when situations like Syria come up.....he wants the U.S. to intervene militarily....and here's one of his reasons why....
"Be prepared with an international force to secure these stocks of chemical and perhaps biological weapons," the Arizona Republican advised. "There are a number of caches of these chemical weapons, they cannot fall into the hands of the jihadists, otherwise we will end up seeing those weapons used in other places in the Middle East. It's a very dangerous situation."
Sound familiar? It should. It was those same "jihadists" who were going to get their hands on Saddam's WMD if we didn't attack Iraq. Condi told us that we didn't want the "smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud". Remember? That's what John McCain said again on Sunday as he argued for U.S. military intervention into yet another Muslim country.
Let me be clear. I don't much care for John McCain. Over the decades he has revealed himself to be a hot-headed, authoritarian jerk, not all that intelligent, and a guy who has spent his entire career in government looking for a way to win the Vietnam War. He famously embarrassed himself in 2008 by declaring of Americans "Today, we are all Georgians", as he tried to insert the U.S into a territorial dispute between Russia and one of it's neighbors, Georgia.
It may not be 100% accurate to call McCain a neo-conservative warmonger.....but it's within the margin of error.
But I gotta' tell ya'......the justification McCain gave for the U.S. intervening militarily in Syria was quite a piece of....work....
"And just let me say, the Syrian people are angry and bitter at the United States. I was in a refugee camp in Jordan, and there are thousands of people and kids. And this woman who's a school teacher said, 'Sen. McCain, you see these people here? They're going to take revenge on those people who refuse to help them.' They're angry and bitter. And that legacy could last for a long time too unless we assist them."
You see....if the U.S. doesn't go ahead and intervene militarily in Syria, then McCain can't promise that those same Syrians who are calling for American involvement won't attack us later for not intervening. Take's your breath away, no? McCain created an entirely new GOP hostage-taking paradigm with that comment. If we don't launch a hot war in Syria....currently under-seige Syrians will attack us. What will be next?....If we don't shred Social Security the "terrorists" will attack us for our evil, god-hating socialism?
Naturally, the truth is just the opposite. It's not because America doesn't intervene in Muslim nations that motivates foreign Muslims to get mad and want to kill Americans. It's because we do intervene.....
"Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 'the 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, has told interrogators that the American wars in Iraq and Afghanistan motivated him and his brother to carry out the attack,'
Underwear Bomber...."....in retaliation for the killing of innocent and civilian Muslim populations in Yemen, Iraq, Somalia, Afghanistan and beyond, most of them women, children, and noncombatants."
Attempted Times Square Bomber...."If the United States does not get out of Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries controlled by Muslims, he said, 'we will be attacking US', adding that Americans 'only care about their people, but they don't care about the people elsewhere in the world when they die' . . . .
Ft. Hood shooter, Nidal Hasan....."Part of his disenchantment was his deep and public opposition to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan,..."
Now-deceased Osama bin Laden....."First, for over seven years the United States has been occupying the lands of Islam in the holiest of places, the Arabian Peninsula, plundering its riches, dictating to its rulers, humiliating its people, terrorizing its neighbors, and turning its bases in the Peninsula into a spearhead through which to fight the neighboring Muslim peoples."
So, no....John McCain....it isn't because the United States doesn't intervene in Muslim countries that motivates "terrorists" to attack us...they attack us because America continues to intervene.
