Anti-fracking groups from across Ohio will rally on Saturday, June 2, in New Philadelphia.
The rally will run from 9 a.m. to noon in front of the Tuscarawas County Courthouse, 101 E. High St., New Philadelphia.
Speakers include representatives of the Buckeye Forest Council, Mohican Advocates, Food and Water Watch, the Sierra Club and Stewards of the Land.
The rally is calling attention to the water sales to drillersin eastern Ohio by the Muskingum Conservancy Watershed District.
Its Conservancy Court is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m.The court may soon set rates for additional water sales from six of its reservoirs in eastern Ohio.
That could affect Clendening Reservoir in Harrison County, Leesville Reservoir in Carroll County, Tappan Lake in Harrison County, Atwood Lake in Carroll and Tuscarawas counties, Piedmont Lake in Belmont County and Seneca Lake in Noble and Guernsey counties.
To date, the district with offices in New Philadelphia has approved one water sale: to Gulfport Energy Corp. It is getting up to 11 million gallons from Clendening for hydraulic fracturing or fracking.
The district covers 18 counties stretching from Akron south to the Ohio River. It covers 20 percent of Ohio.
