Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp. has named James Kleckner to be executive vice president for international and deepwater operations.

He takes the spot vacated recently when Oklahoma-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. appointed Doug Lawler its new chief executive officer.

Kleckner was promoted from vice president of operations in the Rockies at Anadarko.

In his new role, he will join the exploration and production company’s executive committee.

Kleckner began his career in the oil and natural gas industry in 1981 with Sun Oil Co.

Brad Holly, Anadarko's vice president of operations for its southern and Appalachia region — an area that includes operations in Texas, Louisiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania — will be moving from Texas to Denver to take Kleckner's prior role, says the Denver Business Journal.
