The American Homebrewers Association will celebrate the 15th annual Learn to Homebrew Day on Saturday. (Nov. 2)

The annual event provides the opportunity for people to learn how to brew or teach others how to make beer. The AHA has a list online of activities, including several in Ohio.

In the Akron area, the Society of Akron Area Zymurgists will hold a public teaching event starting at 9 a.m. at the home of Larry and Donna Reuter, 581 Letchworth Drive, Akron.

"Learn to Homebrew Day shows people that homebrewing is an easy and fun hobby that anyone can pick up and enjoy,” Gary Glass, director of the American Homebrewers Association, said in a prepared statement. “The homebrewing community has added many new enthusiasts over the past decade — some of whom found their passion for making their own brews at a Learn to Homebrew Day event.”

Homebrewing is growing. The AHA has seen membership grow from about 8,400 members in 2000 to more than 40,000 members today. It’s estimated that more than 1 million people brew their own beers and wine at home.
