Deschutes Brewery, the fifth-largest craft brewer in the U.S., made its official Ohio debut last week, but special events promoting the brand are continuing through this week.

“Ohio is a huge state for us,” brand ambassador Lauranne “Lou” Crooks said Monday during a tasting at Acme Fresh Market in Akron. “It’s the biggest launch we’ve ever done. There’s over 12 of us here from Oregon who flew out for this launch."

Ohio also is a milestone for the company because Deschutes is now available in 25 states, she said.

The Bend, Ore., brewery is offering its Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Red Chair Northwest Pale Ale and Inversion IPA here. It's holding beer tastings, dinners and even a burlesque show to promote its brand. The burlesque show, called "Beer-lesque: Tastings and Tassels," is at 8 p.m. Friday at Skully's Music-Diner in Columbus.

“There are so many great local breweries out here in Ohio we’re just excited to be recognized as the new kid on the block,” Crooks said. “We’re the transfer kid. Everybody wants to know who we are.”

Jon Albrecht, the beer buyer for Acme, said Deschutes is selling well. "All four of the six packs are equal [in sales]," he said. "Usually you see one way ahead of the others. That speaks to the quality of all their items."
