The Reverend

I've been watching a replay of Trump's prompter-assisted speech today in Pennsylvania. You Tube has it here. I must again make mention of just how awkward Trump is with a teleprompter. He's just terrible. He can't get into any comfortable rhythm, and it all comes across as very amateurish...and...well...kind of boring.

He's telling his audience he is all about helping U.S. workers but he's railing against corporate regulations and tax rates, just like any run-of-the-mill GOP candidate. The speech is, as usual, full of falsehoods...and his trade solutions would obviously bring about a trade war which will depress the U.S. economy. So, not only is Trump's speech delivery worse than ever...but he's also entirely wrong in his suggested solutions.

But what's been sticking in my craw since early yesterday is how the for-profit media has been dealing with polling numbers. Two new polls were released on Sunday, one by NBC/WSJ and one by ABC/WAPO. The ABC poll had Hillary up by TWELVE percent. The NBC poll had Hillary only up by 5%. MSNBC and Fox both featured the NBC polling numbers and they ran them in segments most of the day. I wonder why that was the case.

But then today, as NBC's Survey Monkey released a new poll showing Hillary up by 8%, and as Real Clear Politics moved it's average head-to-head Clinton lead over Trump to 6.8%.....MSNBC's Morning Blow team quickly dispensed with the new Survey Monkey poll. Then Scarborough immediately criticized the Sunday ABC poll as inaccurate...and then both anchors moved immediately back to the Sunday NBC/WSJ polling to show how on specific issues Trump leads Hillary...on things like who would best "change Washington", whatever that means. They spent the remainder of a 7+ minute segment opining about those intangible numbers.

That is just one example of how for-profit media is doing their best to keep the presidential election close.

I also am getting tired of hearing the media narrative about how Trump will "redo the electoral college map" by putting in play states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and sometimes, in their more biased and stupid moments....Wisconsin and Minnesota. The bogus theory is that those rust belt states are ripe picking for the Donald on account of all those blue collar workers he pretends he will help as president by gutting corporate regulations and lowering corporate taxes. You've probably heard that one more than a few times.

Here's the truth of the matter....Trump is not only losing ground in national head-to-head matchup polls and averages...but he is also losing ground in those alleged "blue collar" states. Pennsylvania, Clinton up 2.5%, Ohio, Clinton up 3%,....both showing a wider lead by Clinton than just last week. Additionally, Clinton leads in Florida by 3.4%, in Virginia by 4% and in New Hampshire by 2.4%.

But the real news left unspoken from the past five days or so is this poll....

A new poll shows Hillary Clinton running ahead of Donald Trump in Arizona, where a Democratic presidential candidate has carried the state only once in the last 64 years.

A survey by Phoenix-based OH Predictive Insights found Clinton taking 46.5 percent support over Trump at 42.2 percent.

You'd think that would be, you know, newsworthy. But wait, there's more.

In a one liner at the end of The Hill piece linked above, there is this...

Recent surveys have also shown close races in Utah and Georgia.

Over at Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball.....the state of Utah has been changed from "safe Republican" to "likely Republican". Georgia and Arizona have both been changed from "likely Republican" to "leaning Republican".

And then, Sabato gazed into the crystal and saw something very odd....

If Clintonís national lead does grow further, itís far from impossible that she might be able to carry Indiana, as well as Missouri, which Obama did not carry in either of his elections.

Immediately after the Democratic Convention, Hillary's national lead is going to "grow further". So, draw your own conclusions.

The actual story right now...as far as presidential polling is concerned....is not whether Trump will expand or remodel the electoral map because of some vaporware nonsense about attracting voters from rust belt states ...but how Hillary is already expanding that map for the Democrats.

Finally, on the "waiting for Trump to start acting presidential" front,.....The mousy and usually timid Steve Rattner, a regular on Morning Blow, pissed...quietly...on Joe's excitement parade over Trump maybe, hope so, could be,....changing his ways....by reminding the Blow Team that even if Trump changed his entire public demeanor that still wouldn't erase all the crude, wild, crazy, hateful and just-plain-stupid stuff the GOP candidate has said for 13 months running.

Even NASA couldn't come up with a big enough Etch-a-Sketch to do THAT job.
