The Reverend

I have heard quite a lot from GOP hopefuls about how "our children" are being burdened with so much government debt....and how, by god, when they are president, they're going to do something about it. Federal government spending, we are told repeatedly by GOP Clowns, must be significantly reduced to save the future lives of the "children" of today from being enslaved to paying down federal debt.

The message? Republicans, deeply, care for America's children.....

Emails released by the office of Gov. Rick Snyder last week referred to a resident who said she was told by a state nurse in January 2015, regarding her son’s elevated blood lead level, “It is just a few IQ points. ... It is not the end of the world.” Dr. Hanna-Attisha and others who have studied lead poisoning have a sharply different view of lead exposure, for which there is no cure. “If you were going to put something in a population to keep them down for generations to come, it would be lead,” Dr. Hanna-Attisha said.

“It is just a few IQ points. ... It is not the end of the world.”

As this short Barron's piece makes clear.....the reason Flint's source for water was changed in the first place was to.....save money...

Flint changed its water supply to save money. In the process, it failed to add chemicals that would prevent the new, more acidic water from eroding lead from ancient city pipes supplying as many as 100,000 people.

Rachel Maddow has been doing yeoman work on the Flint water crisis, and if there were any justice in the land, Michigan Tea/GOP Governor Rick Snyder would resign....but I'd like to broaden the discussion a bit.

What if the "saving money" initiative in Michigan became the rule in all 50 states, as most Republican presidential candidates are promising? How do you think America's children will fare if federal government spending is cut to the quick in order to balance those money books? What impact on America's children will the GOP's promise to gut the EPA have on the health and well being of those children, the ones Republicans say they must protect from heavy future debt burdens?

If a "fiscally responsible" Republican wins the presidency, how many more children in America will be told that....'hey, it's only a few IQ percentage points, get over it' ?

Of all the pandering done by politicians, invoking a deep, heart-felt concern for the future of our "children"....is the most egregious.

Republicans use "the children" as a political stage prop to advance their lower- taxes-for-the-wealthy policies. Government spending must be slashed, perpetually,....not to prevent future generations from being burdened with national debt obligations (the U.S. has always run deficits), but instead to pave the way for more tax cuts on the nation's wealthiest. Simply review the two huge giveaways-to-the-rich in 2001 and 2003....after the Clinton administration had, briefly, eliminated the deficit.

You see, the highest priority of the Tea Governor in Michigan was to "save money". That was Job One. Not carefully guarding the welfare of Michigan's citizens. Money was more important than even the possibility of poisoning unsuspecting families in Flint.

And that approach to governance.....spread sheets before people, tax cuts over clean water, austerity over creating more autistic children, corporate profits over poisoning the poor.....is how Republican hopefuls promise to make America great again....and all for the sake of the "children", who, if they are still alive, just might be unfairly burdened with government debt.

Take a good, long and hard look at what is taking place in Michigan. That is America's future if left in the hands of these truly, despicable bastards.
