The Reverend

In the middle of August, Hillary appeared to be turning the presidential election into a rout. I've already mentioned the media obsession with the "basket of deplorables" comment and her bacterial pneumonia press-felony....as both contributing to cutting into Hillary's lead. But both of those media obsessions happened after the AP, on August 24th, published yet another innuendo and gossip filled, non-story story. Paul Krugman explains...

This media onslaught started with an Associated Press report on the Clinton Foundation, which roughly coincided with the beginning of Mrs. Clinton’s poll slide. The A.P. took on a valid question: Did foundation donors get inappropriate access and exert undue influence?

As it happened, it failed to find any evidence of wrongdoing — but nonetheless wrote the report as if it had. And this was the beginning of an extraordinary series of hostile news stories about how various aspects of Mrs. Clinton’s life “raise questions” or “cast shadows,” conveying an impression of terrible things without saying anything that could be refuted.

No, there was no there, there.....but the AP decided it was time to knock Hillary down a peg or two....just because they could. In this paragraph, Krugman touches on something I've been meaning to bring up...

I still don’t fully understand this (media) hostility, which wasn’t ideological. Instead, it had the feel of the cool kids in high school jeering at the class nerd. Sexism was surely involved but may not have been central, since the same thing happened to Mr. Gore.

....it had the feel of the cool kids in high school jeering at the class nerd.....exactamundo.

That is an apt description of the Trump campaign. The cool, perhaps even popular, high school kids who, I think from inferiority complexes, liked to mock and ridicule the nerds who, you know, studied, prepared for tests, and placed value in learning stuff. Being "cool" in high school rarely includes those who take...education....seriously.

As Obama said of Hillary, no one who has ever run for the presidency has been better equipped through her knowledge and experience to become president....than Mrs. Clinton. On the other hand, no one has been less prepared or less experienced to become president...than Donald Trump.

White, male, high school educated voters make up the largest segment of Trump's support. Trump, his campaign Gangsters, and his white, male, high school educated supporters envision themselves as the "cool kids" in this general election campaign. And the "nerds", you see, are the establishment elites. As you are aware, the cool have been endlessly attacking the nerds....blaming them for everything that they perceive in their ignorance has gone wrong in the U.S.

The less-than-studious cool actually get angry towards the nerds because the nerds are a constant reminder of the cool's slacker shortcomings. All those facts and details, history and tradition,.....the oh-so-phucking-boring stuff the cool avoid learning because they're cool....when rubbed in their faces, like Hillary did on Monday night to Mr. Cool, makes the cool feel impotent...and that feeling makes them angry. It makes them want to lash out.

But the problem when the cool try to lash out against the nerds who make the cool look, well, out of touch and kind of stupid, is that they don't have many cool tools to work with. Name calling and bullying, sure, are fun and all....lying and simply making shite up are cool tools to use in Tweets and so forth....the use of vulgarities, a perennial go-to-tool of the cool, also makes the cool feel superior to the nerds.

But in the end, those who see themselves as cool, real Americans....simply reveal themselves as thin-skinned, crude and ignorant asses with very little in their cool arsenals to fight back against the nerds with. That's what we saw on Monday evening.

Hillary....prepared, experienced and very intelligent in many ways....the nerd....used her nerd tools to slice and dice the unprepared, inexperienced, un-curious, rude and crude talking, celebrity teevee Cool Kid.

The truth of the matter is that being ignorant is not cool. Being a bully-boy is not cool. Lying is not cool. Punching down is not cool. Gutter-sniping is not cool. Being obsessed with one's own perceived coolness....is not cool. In fact, those "qualities" have never been cool.

As I have related in the past.....cool is not something one attains to...cool simply is. One cannot fake being cool....and Donald, despite his arm candy, and his billions...will never be cool.

Finally, an example. I found this one very curious. Here's Chuck Todd's Tweet following the Monday night debate....

#debatenite exposed Trump's lack of preparation, but Clinton seemed over-prepared at times.

"over prepared".....in other words, Hillary is a nerd who just takes this president stuff too seriously.
