The cover story in Thursday's USA Today was a look at the natural gas shale boom that is under way in Ohio and 19 other states.


About 35 new wells are drilled daily or 13,000 a year in those 20 states, said reporter Dan Vergano.


The number of natural gas wells in the United States has grown from 342,000 in 2000 to 510,000 in 2010, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
