Weasel Boy Brewing Co. in Zanesville will offer two special barrel-aged beers in February. Owner and brewer Jay Wince said he has a barrel-aged English brown ale with raspberries and another one with concord grapes.

Both soured a bit and have a nice tartness, he said. The beers will be available at the brewpub only, and there's only about a barrel and a half available so they will go fast when they are released, Wince said.

The brewery also has released a wheat India pale ale called War Dance. "We're always looking for hoppy beers to make because we don't make many of them," Wince said. It's available at the pub and Weasel Boy accounts.

Anyone familiar with Weasel Boy knows that nearly every beer carries a weasel-type name. So what's up with War Dance? It turns out that's a common term among weasel owners. When weasels get really excited, they start to dance -- or at least it looks like they are dancing.

Meanwhile, the brewery got a nice promotional bump when it won a gold medal for its Anastasia Russian Imperial Stout at last year's Great American Beer Festival. (It's a two-time winner at the event.) Weasel Boy produced twice as much this year and the beer sold three times as fast, Wince said. The brewery also picked up about a half-dozen new accounts in the Columbus area because of the beer, he said.
