The Akron Beacon Journal's website,, has been inviting area residents to show off their camera skills with a different topic each month, and the current challenge is something near and dear to our hearts: The Akron Marathon, and all the training that goes into it.

You might already have what you need for this photo contest from a group run or even that 8k or 10k event earlier in the year. Or you or a loved one can submit something from the Sept. 23 event.

Here are the details from

"On your mark. Get set. Go!

And yes, it's Tuesday, so today's post should be Karen's Korner, but we're giving our intrepid Beacon Journal Photographer and Akron Half Marathon trainee Karen Schiely the day off while she pampers her sore knees from Saturday's trial run.

In the meantime, she took a moment to dress up her pup "Betsy Blue Eyes" and snap this picture!
