Our embedded Beacon Journal photographer Karen Schiely couldn't run with us Saturday, but she still made the trip out to Clinton to snap a photo of us before our final long run leading up to this weekend's Akron Marathon. Nearly 50 Blue Line Beginners came out, and we ended up sharing the trail with another running group. It was almost like a mini race event!

Most folks were able to collect their new BLB tech shirts in time to wear and wash them for race day. If you didn't get your shirt, I'll be emailing you later today on how to pick yours up.

In a previous post, I asked the BLB to save the date of Saturday, Sept. 30 for a post-race picnic celebration. Sept. 30 is the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah so we're going to move the picnic to the next day, Sunday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. Stay tuned for details.

Finally, welcome to taper week! Half marathoners should only be getting in a 2-mile and 3-mile run this week. During the rest of the week, relax and let the fatigue of all your hard training start to subside in time for the big event! Leave Thursday and Friday as rest days. Relay team members, you should get in a couple of 25-minute runs/walks this week. In both cases, even though you're shortening your mileage, keep up the intensity.

On Monday, I'll post all you need to know about Relay Leg 5 and end that five-part series, then come back Tuesday for all you  need to know about Friday's Expo!
