Here is my advice to increasing your chances of getting your photograph either in the newspaper or online: Wear a costume.

As I perused through hundreds of photographs of the Akron Marathon through the years, I found costumed clad runners as a† recurring theme among the runners that didnít break the first place finishing tape inside Canal Park.

Super hero costumes are probably the most popular in eye-catching attire. One year, a firefighter - a real life super hero - crossed the finish line wearing all of his gear! There have also been a few stray dogs and cats,or at least people dressed up like dogs and cats. If you donít want to dress up like the bride and groom I photographed in 2015, then try holding the hand of a loved one. Better yet, propose marriage as one runner did after crossing the finish line with his girlfriend in 2011.

Whatever you want to do to celebrate the run/walk, do it. To inspire you, here are some pictures of runners celebrating their race taken by myself and fellow Akron Beacon Journal photographers Phil Masturzo, Mike Cardew, Michael Chritton and Ed Suba Jr.
