Aeros 7, Curve 6
Key situation: After a rain delay of an hour and 58 minutes, the Aeros came out of the gates swinging in the first game of the doubleheader, touching Altoona left-hander Eliecer Navarro for six runs (five earned) in the first two of his five innings. ... The Curve returned the favor by attacking the Aeros’ bullpen with four runs in the final two innings to pull within one run. But Altoona ran itself out of the inning when third baseman Adalberto Santos was doubled off second base, as the Aeros got a double play to end the threat and the game.
Quick hits: Aeros designated hitter Cedric Hunter reached safely in all four of his at-bats, finishing a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. After walking in the first inning, he hit a two-run homer in his second at-bat, doubled in his third and drove in the Aeros’ last run on a run-scoring single in his final at-bat in the sixth inning.
Next game: The Aeros and Curve were scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday, due to Friday night’s Game 2 being rained out. If they were able to get the second game in Saturday, the series will wrap up today at 2:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Saturday’s Game 2 starters were expected to be Aeros right-hander Cole Cook (1-0, 7.05 ERA) and Curve right-hander Casey Sadler (7-4, 3.06 ERA).
