The Ohio Bobcats dominated Akron from start to finish on Sunday, taking a 85-61 win in Athens.
Coming into the game, the Zips had three games to win one (or have Buffalo lose one) to secure the MAC regular season championship. Ohio, meanwhile, was and is fighting for a bye to the semifinals of the MAC Tournament.
Still, it was an ugly game for Akron, and quite pretty for the Bobcats, who shot 56.6 percent and dished 22 assists.
It was an embarrassing loss, for sure, but I think it's more embarrassing how some fans are treating the loss as much more than what it is. If you told me this team would go 13-3 in the conference with its only losses at Kent, Ohio and Buffalo (a likely final result), I would take it. You would, too.
It's hard to motivate your team for a game that likely does not matter -- in a harsh environment. I honestly didn't expect the Zips to win. Nor do I expect them to win at Kent on Friday (if they happen to have the conference title locked up).
Akron gets another chance to win the conference on Wednesday, when Buffalo visits.
