Archbishop Hoban High School senior Tyler Gilchrist has committed to play football at the University of Akron.

Gilchrist, an Akron resident, helped guide the Hoban Knights to a 14-1 overall record in 2015 and a win over Toledo Central Catholic in the Division III state championship game at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

“I just want to say thank you to all the teams that invested their time into me,” Gilchrist wrote on his public Twitter account.

“It has been a blessing to be able to have the opportunities that I’ve had. With that said I have decided to further my education and athletics at The University of Akron. I truly feel this is the best decision for me, and I believe Akron is going to give me the best opportunity to be successful. Thank you everyone who believed in me along the way.”

Gilchrist contributed to Hoban’s offense and defense as a wide receiver and defensive back.

Hoban defeated Canton McKinley, Buchtel, Youngstown Ursuline, Toledo Woodward, St. Vincent-St. Mary, Walsh Jesuit, Mentor Lake Catholic, Parma Padua and Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin to start the regular season and lost to Cleveland Benedictine.

Hoban beat New Philadelphia, Louisville, St. V-M, Zanesville and TCC in the playoffs.
