Flying Squirrels 6, RubberDucks 2

Jerry Sands homered, doubled, singled and drove in two runs to lead the host Richmond Flying Squirrels to an Eastern League win over the RubberDucks on Saturday night.

Ducks starter Sean Brady (5-5) gave up six runs on nine hits in 4⅓ innings. He walked one and struck out one.

Ali Castillo had a triple, a double and two RBI for the Flying Squirrels, who used a three-run fifth inning to turn a 3-2 lead into the final margin of victory.

The Ducks managed just five hits, including doubles by Bobby Bradley and Mark Mathias. Connor Marabell had a two-run single, scoring Bradley and Mathias, in the third inning that cut the Squirrels’ lead from 3-0 to 3-2. The two RBI give Marabell 51 for the season.

Matt Whitehouse and Mitch Brown combined to pitch 3⅔ hitless innings in relief of Brady, but the Ducks could not mount a rally.

Squirrels starter Conner Menez (3-1) gave up two runs, walked one and struck out five.
