Flying Squirrels 6, ?RubberDucks 3

Matt Gage allowed three runs on three hits through six innings, and the host Flying Squirrels used a three-run third inning to defeat the RubberDucks on Tuesday in an Eastern League game in Richmond, Va.

The Ducks (44-35) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Mike Papi’s two-run double. The Flying Squirrels (28-49) tied the score in the bottom half of the inning and took a 5-2 lead after scoring three runs in the bottom of the third.

Daniel Salters had an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning to cut the deficit to two runs, but the Flying Squirrels added an insurance run in the sixth to put the game away.

Ducks’ starting pitcher Michael Peoples allowed five runs on five hits through five innings and had one strike out in the loss. Gage struck out eight for his fourth win of the season.

Nellie Rodriguez had two hits and scored a run and Todd Hankins singled for the Ducks.

The Ducks and Flying Squirrels conclude their three-game series on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
