The Woodridge girls and boys cross country teams are set to host the 32nd annual Cuyahoga Valley National Park Invitational on Saturday.

Runners from schools from all over the state are scheduled to convene at Virginia Kendall Hills near the Pine Hollow entrance to the park.

Woodridge coach Jeff Howard said the girls varsity race is at 12:30 p.m. and the boys varsity race is at 1:30 p.m. Woodridge, winners of last year’s Division II boys and girls state team titles, are also the defending CVNP team champions in both genders.

The Bulldogs’ top girls are Molly Howard, Anastasia Bakuhn, Jenna Kaiser, Leah Stanfield, Anna Wojcik, Leah Ziegler and Rosie Sterling. The boys to watch for the Bulldogs are Micah Blair, Sam Dutt, Jack Willett, Andy Muha, Ryan Kiley, Nedal Elkhurd and Noah Perrin.

Canton South (5-0, 2-0) is set to host Alliance (4-1, 2-0) on Friday in a key Northeastern Buckeye Conference football game.

Canton South has wins over Cloverleaf, Northwest, CVCA, Minerva and Salem, and features Silas Snyder, Nicholas Blackmer, Riley James, Quentin Hughes and Jared Perez.

Alliance has wins over St. Thomas Aquinas, Indian Creek, West Branch and Louisville and a loss to undefeated Canfield. The Aviators’ top players are Howard Frazier, Duce Johnson, Tyler Johns, Anthony Young, Cameron Cox and Alex Leasure.

• Cloverleaf (1-4) ended its 22-game losing streak last Friday with a 20-6 win at home over Norton (2-3). The Colts defeated the Panthers with 20 unanswered points. Travis Hissom rushed for two touchdowns and Ethan Sterling returned a fumble for a score.

• Zion Phifer, Jamir Thomas, Aidan Longwell and Austin Kutscher led Massillon (4-1) to a 56-46 home win over Bedford in Week 5. Phifer rushed for three touchdowns and 196 yards on 31 carries, Longwell tossed three touchdown passes, Thomas rushed for two touchdowns and Kutscher had two receiving touchdowns.

• Orrville (2-3) beat host Tuslaw 60-38 in Week 5 with Marquell Parks scoring four touchdowns — two rushing, one receiving and one interception return. Orrville’s other top players were Sheron Phipp (11 rushes for 146 yards, three touchdowns) and David Dilyard (12-of-13 passing for 168 yards, two touchdowns).

• Ravenna (2-3) topped host Springfield 30-24 last Friday with Sonny Ray Jones scoring two touchdowns, and Nate Holt and Kymani Jones each scoring one.

• Quarterback Dylan Dagley tossed two touchdown passes and rushed for another score last Friday for Wooster (2-3), which beat visiting Lexington 21-7.
