Division II State Championship

Alliance, on the performance of Will Rose in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke, finished 21st in the Division II state championships at C.T. Branin Natatorium on Friday in Canton.

A sophomore, Rose was second in the freestyle final by .16 of a second.

The backstroke championship was closer, as Jacob Eismann (Columbus Academy) and John Sampson (Bellbrook) tied with a time of 49.34 seconds.

Rose was third with a time of 49.35.

University School won the boys team title and Hawken took the girls crown.

Revere 57, Tallmadge 54

The Minutemen overcame a second half double-digit deficit to gain a share of the Suburban League-American Conference title with Highland and Copley.

Revere outscored the Blue Devils 20-10 in the fourth quarter as Sean Leyden scored six of his eight points in the fourth including two late free throws to put Revere (16-5, 9-3) ahead by three.

Pete Nance led the Minutemen with 21 points. Matthew Francesconi finished with 21 for Tallmadge (13-8, 6-6).

Wadsworth 60, Hudson 33

Senior Tony Hewitt connected on nine field goals, three from beyond the 3-point line, to finish with a game-high 21 points to lead the Grizzlies (13-9, 9-5) to a Suburban League home win.

Mogadore 74, Garrettsville 69

Mogadore celebrated its fourth consecutive Portage Trail Conference County Division title by running the table and finishing undefeated in the league at 12-0. Lukas Swartz scored 19 points and Connor Kerr added 17 for the 17-5 Wildcats.

Woodridge 68, Springfield 50

The Bulldogs (17-5, 12-2) gained a share of the PTC-Metro title with Norton with a home win. Mason Lydic’s 25 points led Woodridge.

Archbishop Hoban 66, Walsh Jesuit 52

Garret Houser scored 14 points in the Knights’ (19-3, 7-3) North Coast League home win.

Marlington 82, East 61

With 14 assists, Michael Huberty broke the Dukes’ single-game assist record and set a new season mark with 145 in a nonleague win. Austin Brady led the Dukes with 27.

St. Vincent-St. Mary 75, Canton McKinley 68

The Irish (14-8) won their fifth consecutive game over McKinley (12-10).

Lake 63, Firestone 36

Ten Blue Streaks players scored en route to a nonconference road win. Mike Spotleson led Lake (19-3) with 13 points and Jake Maranville added 10. LaFette Johnson scored 15 for Firestone (9-12).
