Senior Justin Smith rushed for two touchdowns and the host Golden Eagles (2-0) held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Tigers for the win in a nonconference game.

The Golden Eagles led 20-3 at halftime before senior Ernie Baez scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and the Tigers cut the deficit to three points.

Senior Vince Cuenot scored on an 18-yard run to give the Golden Eagles a 26-17 lead.

Kyle Kempt threw a touchdown pass to Gareon Conley late in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback for Massillon, which is 1-1.
