Hudson, cross country
Beucler, a junior, placed first out of 239 boys runners at the GlenOak Golden Eagle Invitational in a time of 15:47.2. He led Hudson to a team title with 53 points in a 23-team field. Jackson, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Brecksville, GlenOak, Mentor, Hudson “B”, Copley, Strongsville and St. Vincent-St. Mary rounded out the top 10 teams.
Ho, a junior, won the Suburban League National Conference preseason tournament medalist honor with a 2-over 74 at Barberton Brookside Country Club. Her score helped Wadsworth (377) place third in the eight-team SLNC standings behind North Royalton (350) and Hudson (372).
Highland, cross country
Kenner, a junior, placed first out of 178 girls runners at the GlenOak Golden Eagle Invitational in a time of 18:27.5. She led Highland to a third-place finish with 119 points in a field of 22 squads. Hudson (54) and Twinsburg (113) finished first and second, respectively. St. Vincent-St. Mary, Brunswick, Jackson, Strongsville, Mentor, Louisville and Nordonia finished fourth through 10th in the team standings.
Phelps, a senior, won the Suburban League American Conference preseason tournament medalist honor with a 2-over 73 at J.E. Good Park Golf Course in Akron. His score helped Highland (309) place first in the seven-team SLAC standings. Aurora (327), Kent Roosevelt (336), Revere (345) and Copley (347) rounded out the top five teams.
Rice, a senior, helped host Stow defeat Mentor Lake Catholic 28-18 in his first varsity start at quarterback. He rushed 27 times for 258 yards and four touchdowns, and completed 8-of-10 passes for 41 yards. The Bulldogs overcame a 10-0 deficit to get the win over the Cougars.
