Jackson 9,?New Albany 2

The Polar Bears took control from the outset Wednesday at Wooster High School to remain undefeated and earn a berth in the Division I state title game.

Jackson scored the first four goals of the game and led 4-1 at the half.

The game never got closer as Jackson (21-0) opened a 6-1 lead before adding three more goals in the last eight minutes to advance to Saturday’s state final at Ohio Wesleyan’s Selby Stadium.

Jackson will take on top-ranked Upper Arlington (18-2) in the championship, set to begin at 4 p.m. The Golden Bears, who dominated ninth-ranked Mount Notre Dame 22-4 in Wednesday’s other semifinal, will be looking for their third consecutive title — which includes a victory over Jackson in last season’s title game.

Julia Hartnett led Jackson with four goals in the semifinal victory, and Olivia Kroah added three.

Anna Woodhams and Kaylyn Dillon each tacked on an additional goal, and Woodhams also added an assist.

Grace Merrill was fantastic in goal for Jackson, turning away 11 shots and never allowing New Albany (18-4) to put pressure on the Polar Bears.
