The Kent State Golden Flashes shot 53.5 percent from the field and made 16-of-21 free throws to defeat the Miami RedHawks 67-51 on Sunday afternoon at the M.A.C. Center.

KSU’s CiCi Shannon finished with 16 points to lead all scorers, and Montia Johnson just missed a double-double (10 points).

Neither team was able to take much of a lead in the first half, until the Flashes sustained a nine-point lead at halftime.

Larissa Lurken took over in the second half, as she finished with 15 points and shot 4-for-6 from the 3-point arc. Lurken and the Flashes’ hot shooting, coupled with lockdown defense, kept Miami as far back as 13 points for the remainder of the game.

Kent State forced 21 turnovers, including 11 steals.
