Junior college transfer Montia Johnson has signed a national letter of intent to join the Kent State women’s basketball program.

Johnson, a 6-foot-1 power forward from Springfield, Mo., earned honorable mention All-America from the National Junior College Coaches Association in 2012-13.

She led the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in total rebounds and led Cowley College to a 29-5 record.

She averaged 11.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

“Adding a player of Montia’s ability to our 2013 signing class will immediately strengthen our team,” KSU coach Danielle O’Banion said in a news release. “Her toughness, physicality and winning mentality will help our emerging interior game.
