Kent State University sophomore wrestler Ian Miller was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week on Wednesday after two dual meet victories over top-20 opponents last week.

Miller scored four takedowns in a 10-4 victory over No. 15-ranked Jonny Greisheimer of Edinboro.

Miller also defeated No. 18-ranked Joey Lavalle of Missouri 3-2.

Miller is 24-4 this season and leads the Golden Flashes with nine pins and 16 bonus-point victories.

Miller is ranked No. 5 in multiple national polls this week.

The Kent State M.A.C. Center will host the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championships on March 8-9.

Tennis

University of Akron women’s senior Ksenia Berestetska was named MAC Conference Singles Player of the Week on Wednesday.

Berestetska was 2-0 last week at the No. 5 singles spot, including a 6-1, 6-1 win over Portland State’s Ayaka Terakawa that sparked a Zips’ comeback in a 5-2 win over the Vikings in Portland.

The Zips return home to play Duquesne and Butler in a doubleheader on March 8 beginning at 10 a.m. at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow.

Golf

Ohio State freshman Jessica Porvasnik (Highland) was named Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after her first individual win of her career at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.

Porvasnik shot 26 under par, a 54-hole school record, to lead the Buckeyes.

Porvasnik also recorded the first hole-in-one of her career in the tournament’s second round. She holed the 163-yard par-3 second hole with an 8-iron.
