Junior Dom Iero ripped an RBI triple in the top of the night to lead Kent State to a 3-2 win over Toledo in the second round of the Mid-American Conference Baseball Tournament on Thursday night at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon.

Iero’s triple scored junior Conner Simonetti, who had singled and moved to second on a ground out by Tim Dalporto.

Senior Tim Faix, who pitched the last three innings, blanked the Rockets in the bottom of the ninth and earned the win. Faix allowed only one walk and struck out two in relief of KSU starter Andy Ravel.

Ravel allowed two runs on five hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out four.

The Flashes (43-12) will play the winner of Eastern Michigan and Toledo at 1 p.m. Friday. A win would put the Flashes in Sunday’s championship game at noon against the winner of the loser’s bracket and KSU would need to win only one of two possible games to claim the championship.

Toledo (19-37-1) scored first Thursday night when AJ Montoya homered off Ravel in the second inning.

The Flashes took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Mason Mamarella walked and scored on a two-run home run by Simonetti.

The Rockets tied the score in the fifth on an RBI single by Matt Hansen that scored Ross Adolph. Adolph singled, stole second, went to third on a single by Lucas Sokol.
