Buffalo 89, Central Michigan 74

Jeremy Harris scored a career-high 27 points, CJ Massinburg added 18 and top-seeded Buffalo held off eighth-seeded Central Michigan’s rally in the second half for a win in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Buffalo will No. 5 seed Kent State in a semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Nick Perkins had 16 points and the Bulls (24-8) made two big 3-pointers in the final 2:17 to put away the Chippewas.

Cecil Williams had 21 points and 13 rebounds to pace Central Michigan (19-14), which cut a 14-point second-half deficit to two, but couldn’t come up with a big defensive stop in the final minutes.

Toledo 71, Miami 69

Jaelan Sanford scored 21 points, Luke Knapke added 16 and Toledo advanced to the semifinals of the MAC Tournament by edging Miami of Ohio on Thursday night.

The Rockets (22-10) moved on only after Miami freshman guard Nike Sibande missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer in the final second.

The win could have been costly for Toledo as Tre’Shaun Fletcher, the MAC’s player of the year, limped off the floor favoring his left leg. Fletcher finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.

He’ll have little time to get ready for Friday’s semifinals, where Toledo will play Eastern Michigan.
