Trevor Bauer, the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft, will make his debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves.
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday the 21-year-old Bauer, a right-hander and UCLA standout, will be called up from Triple-A Reno and join the team on Wednesday.
Bauer is 4-0 with a 2.82 ERA in eight starts at Reno. He was 7-1 with a 1.68 ERA at Double-A Mobile.
Gibson says “everybody is excited” about Bauer’s debut. Bauer is replacing Joe Saunders, who is on the disabled list with a shoulder injury.
Lewis on disabled list
The Texas Rangers have placed right-hander Colby Lewis on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his forearm.
The move is retroactive to Sunday. The Rangers promoted left-handed prospect Martin Perez from Triple-A Round Rock for the first time to take Lewis’ roster spot.
GM gets assistant
The Los Angeles Dodgers have hired Mickey Hatcher as a special assistant to General Manager Ned Colletti.
Hatcher was fired as hitting coach by the Los Angeles Angels last month after 13 seasons.
The Colorado Rockies are reassigning pitching coach Bob Apodaca to special assistant to General Manager Dan O’Dowd at Apodaca’s request.
Apodaca approached O’Dowd on Tuesday and asked for the change, manager Jim Tracy said.
