AL Cy Young Award winner David Price will rejoin the Tampa Bay Rays’ rotation Tuesday night at Houston.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Friday night’s game with Detroit that the team feels “pretty strongly” that the left-hander is ready to return from a strained left triceps.

“There’s no reason to have him throw those 90 pitches [in the minors],” Maddon said. “He was adamant that he feels great. The medical staff feels good about it.”

Price went on the disabled list for the first time in his career May 16. He made two minor-league rehab starts.

“I feel good ... I’m ready to go,” said Price, who struggled this year before getting hurt, going 1-4 with a 5.24 ERA. He was 20-5 with a 2.56 ERA last season.

Also, right-hander Alex Cobb, who was struck in the right ear by a ball hit by Kansas City’s Eric Hosmer on June 15, played catch during batting practice.

Surgery for Hart

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Corey Hart will have surgery to repair cartilage damage in his right knee next week and miss the remainder of the season. He had yet to play this year because of surgery on his left knee in January.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Friday that Hart will undergo the surgery sometime next week in Los Angeles.

Milwaukee activated right-hander Hiram Burgos from the 15-day disabled list and sent him to Triple-A Nashville.
