White Sox 4, Mariners 3 Tyler Flowers hit a go-ahead homer just before the final downpour and the host Chicago White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners in a rain-shortened game for their sixth straight victory. Immediately following a 6-minute rain delay in the seventh inning, Flowers launched a two-run shot off Kevin Millwood to lead first-place Chicago to its second consecutive series sweep.

Cardinals 8, Reds 2 Matt Holliday had four hits and four RBI to help the visiting St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds. Allen Craig homered and drove in three runs as St. Louis handed the Reds just their second series loss in 13 sets since the All-Star break.

Phillies 4, Nationals 1 Cliff Lee tossed seven sharp innings to earn his first home win in nearly a year and the host Philadelphia Phillies completed a three-game sweep against the major league-leading Washington Nationals. Jimmy Rollins hit a two-run homer and Laynce Nix had a solo shot to back Lee (3-7).

Brewers 7, Pirates 0 Mark Rogers allowed three hits over five innings, Carlos Gomez and Aramis Ramirez homered and the visiting Milwaukee Brewers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brewers won for the fifth time in six games. The Pirates have lost five of six.

Marlins 6, Dodgers 2 Rob Brantly gave Miami the lead for good with his first major league home run, and the visiting Marlins also got long balls from Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Reyes and Carlos Lee to beat the revamped Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale of an 11-game road trip.

Padres 5, Diamondbacks 4 Edinson Volquez pitched seven effective innings and the visiting San Diego Padres extended their winning streak to a season-high seven games with a victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Padres roughed up Trevor Cahill (9-11) and had at least 10 hits (11) for the sixth time in eight games to complete their second sweep in the desert this season.

Cubs 5, Rockies 0 Chris Volstad ended a 24-start winless streak, allowing three hits in 6? strong innings for his first victory in 13 months as the host Chicago Cubs beat the Colorado Rockies in a game shortened to eight innings by rain.

Braves 7, Giants 1 Tim Hudson pitched seven strong innings for his seventh consecutive victory and Paul Janish tripled home two runs to help the Atlanta Braves beat the San Francisco Giants.
