Scherzer (3-1) won his third straight start, allowing four hits while striking out seven to become the first pitcher in team history with at least seven strikeouts in each of his first six starts.

Jesse Chavez allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings, Eric Sogard matched his season total with three RBI and visiting Oakland completed a three-game sweep with a rout of Texas. Yoenis Cespedes had two doubles, scored twice and drove in two runs for the A’s, who scored 10 runs combined in the third and fourth innings.
Royals 4, Blue Jays 2
Alcides Escobar delivered a two-run double in the seventh inning, and host Kansas City held on for a tense victory over Toronto. Eric Hosmer drove in the other two runs for the Royals, whose bullpen blew a 2-0 lead for young starter Yordano Ventura before holding on to beat Toronto with a late rally for the second straight night.

Allen Craig homered on a four-hit day that included three RBI, and Matt Adams hit a three-run homer as host St. Louis beat Milwaukee. Jon Jay had three hits and a walk his first four trips to the plate. The Cardinals avoided a three-game sweep by the team with the best record in the major leagues.
Marlins 9, Braves 3
Nathan Eovaldi pitched seven innings and host Miami scored nine runs off NL ERA leader Aaron Harang to beat Atlanta. Harang (3-2) gave up 10 hits in 4? innings, and his ERA rose from 0.85 to 2.97. The Marlins tied a season high with 15 hits, including seven for extra bases. Marcell Ozuna hit a three-run homer, and Christian Yelich added his first home run of the year.
Cubs 9, Reds 4
Nate Schierholtz drove in three runs and Anthony Rizzo hit a two-run homer, rallying Chicago over host Cincinnati. Starlin Castro went 3 for 4 with two doubles for the Cubs, who have won two of three following a four-game losing streak. Brayan Pena hit a solo homer for the Reds.

Anthony Rendon finished a triple shy of the cycle and had four hits, Jordan Zimmermann pitched smoothly into the seventh inning and Washington beat host Houston. Rendon connected for a two-run double in a four-run fourth and added a solo home run in the sixth.
