Thunder guard Russell Westbrook has yet to sign an extension, but the reigning league MVP said Oklahoma City is where he wants to be and he is “happy” about the offseason additions of superstars Carmelo Anthony and Paul George.

The unsigned deal has tempered some of the excitement building around the team. He has until Oct. 16 to ink a contract that would be worth more than $200 million. Westbrook says he hasn’t signed because of the birth of his son and a busy travel schedule.

Millsap impressed

Paul Millsap says the Denver Nuggets are a top-five team even in the ultra-competitive Western Conference. The All-Star forward was signed to help the Nuggets make the playoffs for the first time since 2012-13.

Millsap said Monday that he’s impressed by what he sees out of a youthful team that includes up-and-comer Nikola Jokic, who arrived at camp 10 pounds lighter, and Jamal Murray, the sharpshooting guard who’s healed from surgery to repair injuries to his core muscles.

Morris replacement

Washington Wizards coach Scott Brooks figures he has several options for replacing Markieff Morris while the starting power forward misses the beginning of the NBA season after having surgery for a sports hernia.

The team said he was missing from media day because he is in Phoenix while standing trial with his brother on aggravated assault charges.

Brooks says the Wizards are “not going to rush him back” from the surgery, which was Friday.

Reserves Kelly Oubre Jr., Jason Smith and Mike Scott could all spend time in Morris’ spot.

Favors forgotten

Derrick Favors knows he’s been the forgotten man in the Utah Jazz grand scheme.

“That’s what people kind of forget, I can score the ball, too, when I get the chance,’’ he said.

The Jazz are going to need Favors to produce. They are embarking on a new era with the departure of Gordon Hayward. All-NBA center Rudy Gobert and guard Rodney Hood are commonly thought to be the future of the franchise, but Favors could be the key to the Jazz earning back-to-back playoff berths for the first time this decade.
