Tim Tebow has been waived by the Jets, the end of an unsuccessful one-season experiment in New York.

Coach Rex Ryan said in a statement Monday morning: “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped.” The Heisman Trophy winner attempted just eight passes after his ballyhooed arrival in a trade from the Denver Broncos in March 2012. He threw for 39 yards and rushed 32 times for 102 yards.

The Jets drafted quarterback Geno Smith in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Bulls-Colts swap

The Bills and Colts have swapped linebackers, with Buffalo trading Kelvin Sheppard to Indianapolis in exchange for Jerry Hughes. Sheppard has been inconsistent in two seasons in Buffalo. Hughes was the Colts’ 2010 first-round draft pick from TCU.

Bengals choices

By drafting tight end Tyler Eifert and a running back Giovani Bernard, the Bengals think they’ve given their offense more playmakers.
