The Cincinnati Bengals signed running back Brian Hill off the Atlanta Falcons practice squad Tuesday.

Hill was a fifth-round pick from Wyoming. He started the season on Atlanta’s 53-man roster and played one game on special teams before he was waived and signed to the practice squad.

The Bengals were down to running backs Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard after Jeremy Hill went on injured reserve over the weekend with an ankle injury that requires surgery.

The Bengals waived linebacker Hardy Nickerson to open a roster spot. Nickerson played in seven games and had two tackles on special teams.

Also, Cincinnati signed rookie cornerback Sojourn Shelton to the practice squad. It’s his second stint on the squad.

Done for the season

Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel will have season-ending surgery on his left ankle and will miss the rest of the season.

That means Carolina (7-3) will be looking for a new starting wide receiver heading into the bye week.

Samuel injured his ankle in the third quarter of Carolina’s 45-21 win over the Miami Dolphins on Monday night when a defensive player rolled over his ankle in the end zone. The team didn’t release the specific injury to Samuel’s ankle.

Seahawks add Maxwell

The Seattle Seahawks signed cornerback Byron Maxwell to help make up for the loss of Richard Sherman to a season-ending Achilles tendon injury.

Maxwell knows Seattle’s system after starting his career with the Seahawks and becoming a starter during the 2013 season. He signed with Philadelphia in free agency after the 2014 season but lasted just one year with the Eagles and was traded to Miami before the 2015 season.

Seattle also placed running back C.J. Prosise on injured reserve with an ankle injury and signed running back Mike Davis from the practice squad.

Bills sign tackle

The Bills signed Deandre Coleman, a 6-foot-5, 341-pound defensive tackle who spent part of last season in Buffalo.

The move comes after the Bills allowed 492 yards rushing in their past two games, including 298 yards in a 47-10 loss to New Orleans on Sunday.

Coleman will be given an opportunity to fill the spot left open after Buffalo traded Marcell Dareus to Jacksonville last month.

The Bills created room on their roster by releasing defensive tackle Jerel Worthy.

Redskins make moves

The Washington Redskins put starting running back Rob Kelley (knee) and inside linebacker Will Compton (foot) on injured reserve, and signed free-agent defensive lineman Caraun Reid and Philadelphia Eagles practice squad running back Byron Marshall.

The Redskins also waived defensive lineman Brandon Banks and released defensive lineman Tavaris Barnes.
