Coach Pete Carroll says it was an “amazing experience” for the Seattle Seahawks to host the football team from Marysville-Pilchuck High less than a week after a shooting at the school left three students dead, including the shooter.

The high school team practiced at the Seahawks’ facility Tuesday. Carroll was there to meet the team, along with a number of players, including cornerback Richard Sherman, safety Earl Thomas and wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

“They seemed like for a moment in time they forgot what happened,” Sherman said.

Marsyville-Pilchuck was scheduled to play Oak Harbor last Friday for a division title, but Oak Harbor forfeited the game to the Tomahawks. Marysville-Pilchuck is scheduled to play its first game since the shooting on Friday night.

Bengals linebacker has surgery

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict had surgery to clean out his left knee and will miss at least the next two games.

The Pro Bowl linebacker hurt the knee during a 27-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

The Bengals (4-2-1) host Jacksonville (1-7) on Sunday, followed by a game against the AFC North rival Browns the following Thursday night at Paul Brown Stadium.

Burfict also has missed two complete games and parts of others because of two concussions.

Redskins unsure about starter

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III’s practice status received an upgrade from “limited” to “full.” Yet coach Jay Gruden said Griffin still needs to show a comfort level in the huddle and a mental command of the offense to get back on the field.

Griffin and backup Colt McCoy are getting first-team snaps in practice, and Griffin has “a chance” of playing for the first time since dislocating his left ankle in Week 2.

McCoy, making his first start in three years, led a 20-17 overtime upset of the Cowboys on Monday.
