COLUMBUS: The final week of the college football recruiting season will have national implications for Ohio State.

That’s because the Buckeyes are trying to hang on to offensive tackle prospect Jamarco Jones, and that is not assured. They also are trying to land defensive end Malik McDowell or defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, or both, while angling for one more receiver. Those could prove the difference between remaining No. 2 behind Alabama in the Rivals.com national rankings and dropping.

“I think they have a chance to fall a little bit if they don’t hang on to Jamarco and if they don’t land Malik,” Mike Farrell of Rivals.com said. “There’s a couple of schools behind them [No. 3 Texas A&M, No. 4 Tennessee and No. 5 Florida State] that have a chance to move up to No. 2.”
