The University of Akron menís basketball team will play in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, host 18 home games and play 11 teams that participated in the postseason last season, according to the 2012-13 schedule released on Thursday.
The Zips will begin defense of their 2011-12 Mid-American Conference regular-season title at home against Western Michigan on Jan. 9 and will travel to Kent State on Jan. 19 for the PNC Wagon Wheel Challenge. The Zips host the Golden Flashes on either March 8 or 9 in the final game of the season.
The Zips play Oklahoma State on Nov. 15 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Zips will also travel to play Creighton and Detroit, both participants in last seasonís NCAA Tournament.
Other nonconference games include Middle Tennessee, Cleveland State, Princeton and Coppin State.
The MAC Tournament will be held March 11-16.
The UA womenís basketball team also released its 2012-13 schedule, highlighted by nonconference games against Cincinnati, Dayton and George Mason and a home game against Kent State on Jan. 13 in the Wagon Wheel Challenge.
The Zips host the Bearcats on Dec. 15 and the Flyers on Dec. 18 and travel to Providence on Nov. 24.
The Zips open MAC play on Jan. 10 with a home game against Buffalo and close out the regular season against the Bulls on March 6. The Zips travel to Kent State on Feb. 23.
