The Kent State volleyball team has added five incoming freshmen and one sophomore transfer for the 2012 season.


The Golden Flashes have eight returning players.


The five freshman recruits are outside hitter Kelly Hutchison of Columbus, libero Alexis Rains of Aliquippa, Pa., hitter Haley Schneider of Farmington Hills, Mich., outside hitter Morgan Semmelhack of Euclid and middle blocker Bridget Wilhelm of Euclid.


In addition, sophomore libero Kaylee Koller of Amherst transferred to KSU from Lorain Community College.


“Our incoming class will add plenty of depth for us at the pins and in the back row, with a few of these recruits having an opportunity to make an immediate impact on the court,” first-year KSU coach Don Gromala said.


High school football


The opening game between Buchtel and Massillon on Aug. 23 will kick off a season of football games to be broadcast on FOX Sports Ohio.


Fourteen games will be broadcast, including a game between Canton McKinley and GlenOak on Oct. 4. with two games yet to be determined.
