Kent State hit its second grand slam in the season’s first six games and scored seven more runs in the late innings to beat Middle Tennessee 14-5 on Sunday.

The win capped a 3-0 weekend by the Flashes (4-2) at the Southern Athletic Fields Dirt Classic.

Tim DalPorto hit a grand slam in the ninth inning to go with his single and sacrifice fly. KSU pounded out 18 hits and Jared Skolnicki earned the win in five innings of work.

Softball

• Akron left Macon, Ga., after playing to a 1-1 tie against Drexel on the final day of the Black and Orange Challenge. Rain forced officials to call the game in the top of the sixth inning. The Zips’ (1-12-1) only run came on a solo homer by Maddy Clowdus.

• Kent State (7-3) dropped a 4-2 decision to Villanova (2-3) at the Madeira Beach Tournament. Allie Luther went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a walk.
