Buffalo maintained its lead in the Mid-American Conference East Division in women’s basketball with an easy 81-51 win over Kent State on Wednesday at the M.A.C. Center.

Kent State (12-17, 5-12) was paced by Jordan Kor­inek (St. Vincent-St. Mary), who finished with 14 points. McKenna Stephens (Lake) added 10 points.

Cierra Dillard had a game-high 17 points for the Bulls (24-4, 15-2).

UA women’s basketball

In a matchup of the bottom two teams of the MAC East, Bowling Green got the better of Akron 84-63.

The host Falcons (11-17, 3-14) got 17 points from Haley Puk and 16 more from Caterrion Thompson.

Haliegh Reinoehl led the Zips (8-20, 2-15) with 10 points.

Softball

Marshall beat visiting Kent State 10-4 Wednesday in Huntington, W.Va. Thirteen hits by the Thundering Herd (7-8) were simply too much for the Golden Flashes (7-4) in the nonleague matchup.

Kennadie Goth and Holly Speers each had two hits, but the Flashes managed just one other hit. Speers drove in three runs, including two in the fifth inning with her first home run of the season.

Swimming

University of Akron swimmers Paloma Marrero Munoz (200-yard breast stroke) and Paulina Nogaj (100 butterfly) received invitations for the upcoming 2018 NCAA Championships at Ohio State on March 14-17.
