Isabelle Mihail scored in the 55th minute to give the Kent State women’s soccer team a 1-0 win over Miami on Friday in Oxford.

Mihail scored off an assist from Karli Paracca to give the Golden Flashes (7-3-1, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) their first win in Oxford since 2006.

The Flashes had the advantage in shots on goal (6-4), shots (12-10) and corner kicks (4-0), with Vital Kats leading the way with four shots, three on net.

The Flashes travel to Ball State on Sunday.

• Ashley Amato scored in the 85th minute as the University of Akron played host Central Michigan to a 1-1 draw Friday.

Cross country

Walsh University junior Sarah Berger (Wadsworth) finished in first place at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships in Cedarville.

Berger finished with a time of 20:52.0, 7.9 seconds ahead of second place.

The University of Akron’s Mackenzie Andrews finished in fifth place to lead the Zips’ women’s team to a third-place finish, and Nick Stricklen also placed fifth to lead the UA men to a second-place finish.

Field hockey

Kent State (4-8-0, 1-1 MAC) lost 1-0 to Miami on Friday in Kent. The Golden Flashes led the RedHawks 16-6 in shots, including four in the last three minutes and a penalty corner in the last 30 seconds.
