The Kent State womenís basketball team defeated Northern Illinois 95-85 Wednesday night behind a game-high 37 points by guard Larissa Lurken.
Lurken shot 11-of-14 from the field, while connecting on 7-of-8 from beyond the 3-point arc. Lurken also grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Golden Flashes (4-14, 1-7) shot nearly 53 percent from the field, including 50 percent on 3-pointers. The Huskies (8-11, 1-7) managed just 29 percent on 3-point attempts.
Jordan Korinek also chipped in 22 points and six rebounds for the Flashes.
The Huskiesí Ally Lehman and Mikayla Voigt scored 22 and 19 points, respectively.
UA womenís basketball
The University of Akron suffered its ninth loss of the season, falling ≠75-65 to Mid-American Conference-leading Ohio.
The Zips (10-9, 4-4) trailed 39-19 at halftime and could not overcome a dismal shooting performance. The Zips shot just 27 percent from the field and 25 percent on 3-pointers. In addition, they committed 21 turnovers.
Anita Brown and DiAndra Gibson scored 16 and 13 points, respectively, for the Zips.
The Bobcats were led by Kiyanna Black and Quiera Lampkins with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
The No. 15-ranked University of Akron team bested the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., 4,628-4,505 on Saturday.
The Zips will travel to Palmyra, Pa., on Sunday for the Palmyra Invitational.
