University of Akron senior midfielder Victor Souto was dismissed from the team on Friday for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Souto started all 24 games last season for the Zips and scored eight goals and had three assists, including the game-winning goal against Buffalo in the MAC championship game and a hat trick against Michigan State. Souto was named first-team All-MAC in 2013, second-team All-MAC in 2014 and Academic All-MAC in 2014 and 2015.

Souto appeared in three games this season and had three shot attempts with no goals and no assists.

Soccer

Donavan Capehart scored off an assist from Jenna Hellstrom and Karli Paracca scored an unassisted goal for the Kent State women’s soccer team (7-1-0, 3-0 MAC) in a 2-0 win over Northern Illinois on Friday. The match was played at Stow High School after the Flashes’ home field flooded.

Field hockey

Silvia Figa Malgosa and Alison Harmatz each scored late in the second half but it was not enough to erase a 3-0 deficit as Ohio State defeated Kent State 3-2 on Friday in Columbus.

Volleyball

Kent State lost 3-0 to host Miami on Friday. Lexi Mantas had nine kills and Katarina Kojic had 23 assists for the Flashes.
