The University of Akron football team will open the 2018 season at Nebraska on Sept. 1.

The Zips will also travel to Northwestern (Sept. 15) and Iowa State (Sept. 22) during their nonconference schedule.

UA will host Morgan State in its home opener on Sept. 8.

The Zips open Mid-American Conference play at home against Miami University on Oct. 6. UA then hits the road for MAC games at Buffalo (Oct. 13) and Kent State (Oct. 20). The Zips close out October with Central Michigan at home on Oct. 27.

In November, Akron hosts its only mid-week game on Thursday, Nov. 1, against Northern Illinois. The game will be televised by ESPNU or CBS Sports Network.

On Nov. 10, the Zips travel to Eastern Michigan before returning home for Senior Day on Nov. 17 against Bowling Green and concluding the regular season with a Black Friday game at Ohio on Nov. 23.

ESPNU, CBS-SN, or ESPN3 will televise the game.

UA women’s tennis

The University of Akron dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 35 Kansas State on Friday evening at the Body First Indoor Tennis Center.

The Zips (6-6 overall) picked up a point at No. 1 doubles as Rita Pedroso and Anna Uljanov defeated Carolina Costamagna and Margot Decker 6-3.

Decker is ranked 104th nationally.

But the Wildcats (6-1) claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.

Akron track

Jackie Siefring captured two MAC titles, taking home victories in the women’s long jump and pentathlon, to headline the efforts of the Zips on the opening day of the MAC Track and Field Championships at Perry Fieldhouse in Bowling Green.

The titles were the team-best sixth and seventh career league crowns for Siefring.

In the team standings, the Akron men lead the field with a three-point advantage (44-41) over second-place Eastern Michigan.

The Zips women’s team is in third place with 28 points, trailing Bowling Green (32 points) and Eastern Michigan (30 points) after the first day.
