University of Akron junior Kyle Cochrun set a school record in the 5,000-meter race at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina with a time of 14:12.07. At the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, Ana Martin-Sacristan earned her first win of the season with a 19 feet, 5 inches in the long jump.

Golf

The University of Akron jumped seven spots into fifth place during the second day of the Furman Intercollegiate in Greensville, S.C., thanks to a 3-under 285 that was fourth best in the 18-team field.

Charlie Bull had a 2-under 70 to remain in a tie for eighth place at 3-under 141.

Baseball

?Kent State beat host Eastern Michigan 6-1 to improve to 14-9 overall and 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

Nick Jensen-Clagg turned in a stellar performance, striking out six and walking one over seven innings. He allowed just one earned run and evened his record at 1-1.

Jon Wilson, Alex Miklos and Cody Koch each had three hits for the Golden Flashes. Wilson drove in two runs and scored one.

?The University of Akron dropped its first MAC game of the year with a 4-3 loss to host Toledo in the series finale.

Myles McVeigh took the mound for the Zips (12-11, 5-1), allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out one. Masashi Sakamoto took the loss, dropping to 2-1 after allowing a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth.

Dom Iero and James Meeker led the Zips at the plate, each reaching base three times on two singles and a walk.

Softball

The University of Akron started its conference play on the right foot with a 2-1 win over host Eastern Michigan.

Alyssa Nicholas got things started for the Zips (14-6, 1-0) with a solo home run in the third inning.

Erin Seiler earned the win, improving to 8-2 with seven shutout innings.
